Pickering to be transferred into Rouge National Urban Park

We are beyond thrilled to share that the Government of Canada today announced the transfer of the Pickering Lands into an Expanded Rouge National Urban Park.
The amazing result of 50 years of public advocacy from indigenous groups and local communities, the transfer will create 114 square kilometers of coherent national parklands – and the largest urban park in North America.

“This initiative has the potential to be a global example of balancing farmland, nature, and rural development. Some of the former farmland will be restored to natural landscapes around the area’s ravines, with only minor development in areas where existing infrastructure is already present. It’s all about showing respect for the land.”
— Rasmus Astrup, Design Principal & Senior Partner

A big congratulations to the thousands of people who have worked for decades to make this dream come true. And thanks to our broad coalition of partners with whom we have been so lucky to collaborate on crafting the shared vision for this new, amazing national park for all.

SLA exhibits New Nordic City Nature at Oslo National Museum
Today, the exhibition “New Nordic – Cuisine, Aesthetics and Place” opens at the National Museum in Oslo. SLA and Dyvik Kahlen have made a specially designed pavilion for the museum square – that takes visitors from the Michelin kitchen out into the urban realm. Its roof and landscape are planted with native, edible species from Oslo’s shores and forests, and offers a taste of New Nordic City Nature.
