Urban spaces are places where we meet in the city. SLA works with urban spaces in both new settlements and with the transformation of existing environments. The aim is to transform the spaces of the city into sensuous attractions. Urban spaces are not mere voids between buildings but the places where we move and where we meet.
The city is subject to constant change. Therefore the program for the use of an urban space needs to be open to an extend that allows change again and again. We are always aware of involving history in our projects, and we see conservation as a source of inspiration for the development of new identities.
The work with urban spaces includes an ongoing investigation of how we perceive our surroundings. Therefore the weather and the change of seasons can be experienced in SLA’s urban spaces, and materials are always used with creating sensuous experiences in mind.
