History is present in all corners of the town of Vordingborg. Medieval towns were characterized by sharp boundaries separating town and country. This boundary is still clear in Vordingborg and should be sharpened even further in order to emphasize the difference between built and un-built land.

The town should be more urban with higher density in the existing structure, but at the same time greener, just as the dense medieval town actually was: With central, identity creating squares, and a variety of green spaces.

The reorganization of Vordingborg is based on a three-stringed regeneration strategy, which forms the basis for the well-functioning, future-adaptable, and sustainable town. As the platform for a livelier town, the building mass is densified and new plots are developed within the existing urban tissue consisting of low and dense building.

The urban structure of Vordingborg has great potential for the creation of more plazas and small squares, for instance in areas that are used very little or on parking lots.
