SLA about city and sports

Valby Idrætspark, Northern Europe’s largest out-door sports facility, will in the future be Copenhagen’s and Denmark’s foremost sports area – a new and attractive city quarter full of life and activity. SLA has drawn the comprehensive plan that will form the basis for further planning of the area, including the development of a local plan. The plan fulfils the expectations of the residents for a living, sports-active quarter and comfortable housing.

The main common theme in the quarter will be movement and sport, both organised and spontaneous. The housing is oriented towards the sun in the east, west or south, and looks out over the playing fields towards the green landscape of Valby Park and Kalveboderne on the horizon. Life in the outdoor spaces between the housing or in the open sports space is lively, unorganised and surprising. The outdoor spaces are designed so that it is easy to combine functions such as jogging and enjoying the view across the park, playground and development of movement skills as well as ball courts for young people and bowls for the older.

Around the existing ball pitches SLA has drawn an activity surface that invites free movement at all levels with a view of the sky and grass underfoot. The water-sports building, the stadium and Valby Hall – integrated in a common, significant architectural structure will be the Sports Park ’s natural icon in the north-eastern corner with a magnificent view across the whole park.
