New Urban Spaces in Bjørvika brings a rich urban life to the harbour in Oslo.
Many people want to live where there are views, sun and recreational opportunities, and which at the same time has all the benefits of a town. SLA’s proposal to Ulset vest creates and optimises these qualities. A survey of the area has resulted in a map that shows how each home can be built to allow maximum experience of nature. Within the housing areas sporadic urban environments appear where people meet. The houses are placed along the contours of the landscape as in a cinema, where three metres height differential between each house ensures a good view for all. Each of the 350 houses is a 2-storey terrace house, in which many have living space in the loft. There are different types, for large and small families, single-occupancy etc.
The residents in Ulset Vest willenjoy both the comforts of the townand nature. A dialogue between the built-up enclaves and nature is brought about. The buildings are part of the landscape, but separate from it at the same time. The cultivated spaced have sharp edges, right angles and hard materials. They enter into an interplay with nature. The result is both nature and urbanity.
