SLA have taken the inspiration for the housing development Trylleskoven from ice-crystals, which are both simple and complex. Just as crystals always have the same basic structure, but can also be completely different, there is a fixed, logical structure on the Trylleskoven site. The design is conditioned by the desire to create amenity value for every single household.

The special six-sided crystal pattern is used to ensure that all residents get the most possible out of the nature, marsh, water meadow and water-courses in the area, so that the view can be enjoyed from every home. The houses partly face outward over the green areas between each enclave, and partly towards a closer communal space.

The wide, green landscape can be enjoyed by all, whilst each home has its own private outdoor space such as courtyards, balconies or terrace. The simple pattern of the plan easily absorbs variations so that it is easy for the architects who are to design the houses to adjust it. The existing landscape is preserved and gives the houses sensory value, but is also in dialogue with a framework that is flexible to accommodate the future development of the area. Future building plots are planned in collaboration with the residents and can take many different shapes.
