SLA’s proposal for a landscape masterplan for Roskilde University Centre is based on a consciousness of time. The plan is devised in such a way that it works here and now and in the long term. The time factor thereby brings landscape process to view and manifests aesthetic values.

One of the main interventions in the plan is three new avenues in the landscape. The form of the trees, their rhythm and pace create peace and concentration and they are thereby adapted to the identity of the place, as space for contemplation and learning. Everywhere emphasis is placed on sharpening the users’ awareness, like when one discovers the intermittent views out to the surroundings or into the University’s botanical garden.

The landscape alternates between sequences of open clearings and narrow and broad passageways that lead the user into the world of the university. New path connections enable the exploration of new ways around the University. Gardens create the optimal conditions for peace, intimacy and social interaction, while noise is screened by the landform and tree planting. The landscape will offer lushness and focus attention on the importance of nature for health and well-being.
