In the new housing development in Hornshøj the residents are not only offered a dwelling, but also a unique experience of nature. The development is conceived in order to give as many residents as possible maximal contact with the surroundings. The dwellings are gathered in six clusters around one large, attractive nature area. The development winds itself like a necklace out into the landscape and forms a circular settlement, with emphasis on both diversity and cohesion. It opens out towards the surrounding landscape and embraces the central green common, created for recreational activities.

The centre of the development to the south houses the main cultural activities and commercial functions. To create an urban atmosphere the development in this part is higher and denser than in the other areas with buildings up to 3-4 storeys. The centre is tied together by a hard surfacing that underlines the urban character.

The publicly accessible common in the middle of the develop-ment functions as a green lung and provides a communal space for leisure and cultural activities. The common is also a social space, where residents can mingle with each other. It encourages movement and play and contributes to securing health and happiness among the many residents of the area.
