Dyngeland is located an approximately 20 minutes drive from Bergen city center and is a 3 kilometers long hillside with deer grazing, birdlife, deep mountain lakes and ancient examples of cropping. The area offers a great range of outdoor activities and the landscape surrounding Dyngeland is widely considered some of the finest nature in the Bergen area.

Dyngelandsvejen (Dyngelands road) in the bottom of the Dyngelands Valley offers access to the old farms which are pulled back from the road and fitted into the landscape. SLAs holistic approach to Dyngeland is an urbanization process by maintaining existing ecosystems, as water management, flora and fauna.

For example a 30 percentage settlement in Dyngeland gives a radical change in the natural flow of rainwater. There are different hard surfaces which do not absorb water. SLAs proposal builds on the existing directions and locations of streams. We suggest that with ditches and trenches along the highway the water can be lead to the main water streams. In the streams biotopes are formed in the form of plantation.

SLAs proposed for the development plan and road layout in the new district is based on the above synergy and benefits by leading the road to the communal gardens between the houses, therefore, the project is called ‘the good place’. It is our primary intention to create access to good meeting places, and putting up with activities which build relations and recreational experiences in Dyngeland.

Enclaves, common gardens and tract houses.

SLAs housing structure primarily consists of the enclave-building, which is formed around a communal garden, which provides a setting for activities, herb gardens, greenhouses, play and community. The enclaves are in 3 different sizes to create a spatial variation in the common gardens. These are spatially optimized for local wind, sun and vantage conditions so they are suitable for accommodation and activities.

Biotopes

The crossing of the water streams and roads and trails and institutions are strengthened through the establishment of biotopes.
Biotopes are planted with purifying plants as reeds and willows, so that the biotopes contribute to natural purification of the water from roads.
Biotopes contain more biodiversity in flora and fauna than the existing nature and intensify the experience of the nature. The biotopes will also include adventures- and accommodation places.
