SLA’s winning proposal for Lemvig’s waterfront combines flood protection with a new recreational and creative harbour promenade with activities ranging from food stalls and lookout spots to outdoor learning spaces and new maritime businesses. The new promenade not only strengthens the urban life in the harbour, but it reconnects city and harbour across the waterfront. The proposal rediscovers and strengthens Lemvig’s distinctive character and takes advantage of the city’s unique creative powers, production and craftsmanship to kick-off the development of both the city and the harbour. Thus, the project combines flood protection with a unique and site-specific development of Lemvig that both levers the social, cultural and financial life.

“Sea level rise and flooding are common challenges for many cities and we need good solutions that both protect and develop our cities. SLA’s winning proposal in Lemvig is a prime example on, how costal protection and recreational utilisation go hand in hand. (….) We hope this proposal will inspire other cities and operators to develop productive climate adaptation solutions. “ Erik Flyvholm, mayor.
