Skibby High Street |
Location: Skibby
In partnership with the Municipality of Hornsherred , SLA have redesigned Hovedgaden (High Street) in Skibby. The construction of a bypass has reduced traffic on High Street, and for this reason there is now a desire to reorganise the space, focusing on optimal consideration of non-motorised road users. In response to the new requirements, SLA have developed a programme for the entire road. |
The proposal includes narrowing the carriageway to the minimum requirement which has defined the line of the road in relation to the drivers’ experience of the road space. This has furthermore allowed a widening of the pavements and greater distance to the buildings. |

A new kerb design enables parking on the pavements without causing damage while optimising the conditions for the non-motorised road users. A series of bollards, that with their serrated profile define the road, are placed on the pavement. The bollards have reduced traffic speed and have encouraged the fast moving through traffic to use the bypass. As a result traffic for the shops and housing has better access. |

The approach to High Street is defined with rows of closely spaced rowan trees (Sorbus mougeotti) on the side streets, while the lighting has clarified the roads cross and lengthwise profile and created a coherent space between the buildings. |
