Kolding Railway Station Plaza |
Location: Kolding, Denmark |
The Station Square is a typical transit space. Everyone rushes from A to B. But can it be more? In the renovation of the Station Square in Kolding , the aim has been to give people a reason to linger. Pleasures that can attract and stimulate life in the city. The chance to make the walk home from the evening train into a discovery in light and colour. |

SLA has worked with new surface treatment of asphalt, which is a cheap and very plastic material. By using the same materials and working methods that are traditionally used in many urban spaces, but in a new order, and in a surprising way, new and stimulating spaces are created. Eur-therm creates a colourful floor that is partly lit from below. Coloured metal rings around the trunks of existing trees. |

In this work with textural effects, surfaces and colour a city space is created that changes character and breathes with the city. A space, that with sharpened awareness reveals differences, and opens the possibility of turning transit into sojourn. |

In March 2006 Kolding Town Council visited four SLA projects in the Copenhagen region. Project Managers Kim Madsen and Stine Poulsen showed the council around and told about the ideas and the process in Glostrup Town Hall Park, the Charlotte Garden, Frederiksberg New Squares and at last the Anchor Park in Malmö.
In the picture Stine Poulsen is telling the Concil about Frederiksberg New Squares. |
