The work A PLOT/ MEGARON was carried out in Assistens Cemetery in Nørrebro, Copenhagen. The cemetery is known for its use as a recreative area especially for the residents of Nørrebro. It is a small section of the cemetery area, still in use, where Stig L. Andersson’s and Morten Stræde’s work is integrated with, and is in dialogue with the established area.

The work consists of two parts: A Plot by SLA (the horizontal part) and Megaron by the sculptor Morten Stræde (the 3.5m high sculpture). A Plot consists of 30 patches of either grass or red sandstone, laid into the ground in varying sizes and at different angles.

A PLOT / MEGARON is a reflection on the dual function of the area – a place for contemplation for the grieving and a place that functions as a breathing space in the middle of the hectic city.

Film from A PLOT / MEGARON

The work relates to the physical dimensions of the cemetery as well as to change and transience. This is emphasised among other things by the construction of A Plot over a period of three years. Slow appearance and change. In this way the whole installation appears in different states determined by the time of year, the year itself, erosion and use, and is in constant change. The long construction phase enters naturally into the slow time of the cemetery. Fast time belongs to the street outside. And in a parenthesis between the two is A PLOT/MEGARON.
