Back in 2006 SLA won, in collaboration with Lemming & Eriksson, 2 +1 and writer Jan Sonnergaard, the contest to transform the abandoned HUR-site in to a new, fascinating and green park. The park is closed to the public until December 2009 when the official opening takes place. But Bispebjerg Local Committee and The Department of the Environment invites you to the preview at Kvarterpark Nordvest on Monday the 26 th of October. The event runs from 4pm, where you can help plant some of the park's first plants. Later on there will be speeches about the ideas and plans behind the project by Klaus Bondam and Stig L. SLA wins 2nd place for its vision on Danish stations centers of the future. Also on the team is Grontmij|Carl Bro and Danish Building Heritage.

SLA is widely represented at The Danish Architecture Center in a comprehensive exhibition of newer Danish urban design. Around the Corner – Tendencies in Danish Urban Space takes the pulse on Danish urban design anno 2009, as seen through the optics of photographers and young film directors. New video and photography of Frederiksbergs New Urban Spaces, Sønder Boulevard and Brogård’s Square are exhibited. Also on display is SLA’s most recent design on Ottilia Jacobsen’s Square at Carlsberg, where visitors can experience water in all of its states .

SLA to compete in Cork and Aabenraa
SLA teams up with Irish RKD Architects to rethink Cork Docklands in Ireland. The area is former industrial harbour and is to be transformed into a new and central part of the city. Watch Cork Docklands from the air.
SLA is also shortlisted to participate in the competition on a new hospital for the city of Aabenraa. The hospital needs a completely new environment and SLA is doing the landscape design together with Henning Larsen Architects, Cubo Architects, Friis & Moltke A/S, Lohfert & Lohfert, COWI and Esbensen A/S. |

Realization of the Community Park North-West is on its way. Right now the big concrete stars are cast. They will give the park af dreamy character. The image shows the construction of a supporting wall of white concrete around one of the preserved trees.
The "Star Hill" in the the background will soon be covered in grass. It will be a recognizable element and make it possible to get just a little closer to the stars.
Bispebjerg Lokaludvalg has issued a competition on the future name of the park. Read more here and participate (in Danish).

Lene Dammand Lund, Managing Director of SLA, was appointed chair of the new business representative panel at the Aarhus School of Architecture on June 15th by Danish Minister of Culture Carina Christensen.
The business representative panel shall advise the school’s vice-chancellor on the quality and societal relevance of the education. Furthermore the panel will be looking into the development of new and existing educational programmes and of new teaching and testing methods.
The business representative panel can declare statements and make proposals on everything connected with the quality, relevance and development of the education. |

SLA has recently designed the elephants’ and visitors’ landscape in Copenhagen Zoo – in close cooperation with the architects of the new Elephant House, Foster + Partners. Following this, the Danish Architecture Centre has invited SLA to create the spatial installation ELEPHANT in connection with the exhibition Foster+Partners – Working with History. The installation is a seducing meeting with the sensuous universe of the elephants. The installation is financed by Realdania.

The team consisting of Danish SLA and Norwegian Pir II architects has been appointed as winners of the competition on Båtsfjord Square and Promenade.
Båtsfjord is situated in Northern Norway and is one of the largest fishing harbours in this part of the country. Båtsfjord Square will connect the commerce of the city centre with the sea and the recreational stretch of the promenade. The square will be an active place, an urban space suitable for a number of different events such as town festivals, May 17 speeches and the town's Christmas tree.

1st prize in Norway
The team consisting of SLA, Pir II Arkitektkontor, Myklebust, Sweco and Cowi has been selected as winners of the competition for a new, large harbour park in Trondheim's harbour area, Brattøra. The realization of the park will be based on this proposal.
The competition was issue by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.
SLA and Pir II are already collaborating on the realization of Trondheim Crossing, which connects the harbour front and the town centre.

SLA wins in Odense
SLA in collaboration with C.F. Møller Architects and Alectia Consulting Engineers has been appointed as the team which clients Freja Ejendomme and the Municipality of Odense whiches to continue collaborating with after the parallel commission for Odense Research and Knowledge Park.
The proposal stresses the crossing points between the region, the city and the nearby university. A dense and sustainable urban model which inspires learning processes and knowledge sharing.

SLA in Switzerland
Stig L. Andersson, creative director and founder of SLA, will be lecturing on Friday May 15th at the Rapperswiler Tap 09 seminar at the Hochschule Rapperswil, Switzerland.
The lecture has the title "From disregarded context to new sensuousness" and will include reflections on the concept of the Urban Garden in Nørresundby and on the special and sensuous use of materials which charaterizes this project.

New competition in Greve
The team formed by SLA, Grontmij Carl Bro and Danish Building Heritage has been selected among 33 interested teams to participate in the competition for a development plan for the town centre of Greve, one of Copenhagen's southern suburbs.

Two competitions in Norway
SLA has been prequalified to participate in two urban space architectural competitions in collaboration with Norwegian office Pir II Arkitektkontor.
In Trondheim the team will design a new open space in Brattøra at the town's harbour with a broad view of the fjord. Here a new national road with be constructed along with a recreational urban space.
In Båtsfjord in the northernmost part of Norway the team will give a proposal for a new design of the market square and harbour promenade. |

SLA on Tenerife
SLA’s Elisio project is exhibited from March 6th until May 3rd in the Espacio Culturel el Tanque exhibition hall in Santa Cruz, Tenerife, as part of the Second Biennial of the Canary Islands.
The project proposes an urban space on top of ARoS Aarhus Museum of Art and was designed in collaboration with Sculptor Morten Stræde and Arup Engineers.
Elisio is part of the ”Scenes and Scenarios. Paradoxes of Wellbeing” exhibition. This provides examples of how people utilize the spaces we produce, with an emphasis on enjoyment, cultural contexts and the imaginary.

Copenhagen Zoo and contractors Pihl have been awarded the Concrete Prize 2009 by the Danish Concrete Association for the Elephant Area designed by Foster + Partners and SLA.
The image shows the concrete pillars designed by SLA for the elephants' outdoor facilities. The pillars have three functions. They provide the elephants with shadow in the sharp summer sun; they function as a barrier between the elephants and the visitors; and they refer to the forest as the original habitat of the elephants.

KOZOO - new zoo in Helsinki
With the KOZOO proposal for a master plan for the Korkeasaari Zoo in the heart of Helsinki, SLA is showing new ways of thinking zoological garden. It focuses on the protection of biomass combined with new engaging experiences.
The jury states:
"The proposal approaches the planning assignment intellectually, playfully, and innovatively in handling the entire zoo concept."
"In the proposal, Korkeasaari zoo has been turned into an internationally known brand."
